Ernest H. MacLean

Ernest H. MacLean 1921 - 2009 Miramichi - Ernest Hugh MacLean, husband of Helen MacLean, of Route 117, Black River Bridge, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Tuesday morning, at the age of 87. Born in Black River Bridge, on August 15, 1921,he was the son of the late Frank and Marion (Cameron) MacLean. During World War II, Ernie joined the Air Force and served as airframe mechanic. He worked for many years as a carpenter for Byron MacDonald Ltd., where he designed and built complex and safe staging for storage tanks and bridges. In retirement, his passions were woodworking and genealogy. He was an active member of St. Stephen's United Church, Black River Bridge, where he was a Life Member of Session, a former member of the Board of Stewards, a member of the men's quartet; a long serving member of the choir. In addition, he was a member of Branch # 3, Royal Canadian Legion; the Black River Senior Citizens Club; the Miramichi Chapter of the Highland Society; the Miramichi Genealogy Society. Ernie was happiest when he was in the midst of a gathering of family and friends. He is survived by his wife, the former Helen MacNaughton; three daughters, Roberta and her husband Tom Clark, of Saint John, Susan and her husband Brian Saunders, of Fredericton, Dawn and her husband Fred Webber, of Fredericton, two sons, Ralph, of Saint John and Archie and his wife Judy of Fredericton; two sisters, Jenny MacLean (Harold), of Black River Bridge and Frances Adams, of Niagara Falls, Ont.; nine grandchildren, Johnathan, Nathan, Shannon, Ben, Aaron, Alyssa, Tom, Blair, Daniel. He was predeceased by one infant sister, Betsy and a sister, Catherine Newton. Visitation will be held at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., on Thursday only, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held from St. Stephen's United Church, Black River Bridge, on Friday, March 6, 2009, at 2 pm, conducted by Rev. David Cleveland. Interment will be in the Black River Community Cemetery, later in the spring. Please note, members of Branch # 3, Royal Canadian Legion, are asked to assemble at the funeral home on Thursday evening, at 7:30 pm, for a Veterans' Service. As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Stephen's United Church (General Fund) or any charity of the donors' choice, would be appreciated by the family.
