Francis Royer 1921 - 2009 Francis Royer, 88, passed away with his family by his side at home in Trois-Ruisseaux on Sunday, March 15th, 2009 following a courageous battle with cancer. Born March 9th, 1921 in Saint John, N.B., he was the son of the late Pierre and Anne (MacDonald) Royer. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 42 years, Camilla (St. Pierre) Royer, and their children: Michel (Maria Vittoria Mambrini) of Mirandola, Italy, Maurice of Toronto, ON and Lynne (Darren Zammit) of Grand-Barachois; one brother, John Royer (Taime) of Cape Cod, Mass., and by many friends. He spent his formative years in Petit-Rocher, NB, where he stayed until 1939 when he attended Teacher's College in Fredericton. During War World II, he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Trained in Radar, he was stationed in Halifax, NS, Brooklyn NS, and St. Georges de Malbaie in Gaspé. His duties consisted of Coastal Surveillance of the Eastern seaboard. At the end of the war, he attended University of New Brunswick where he obtained a B.Sc. in Forestry in 1950. He then returned to teaching in Port Elgin. In September 1958, he took the position of Supervising Principal of the Cap-Pelé Consolidated Schools, a position he held until 1977. He continued to teach at École Donat-Robichaud until his retirement in June 1981. He was involved in many activities. In Port-Elgin, he was Training Officer with the Army Cadets. He was a Charter Member and a Grand Knight of the Cap-Pelé Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Canadian Legion and was Parade Marshal on November 11th for several years. He was Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of Canada in Port-Elgin and Cap-Pelé. When they became "Les Scouts Catholiques du Canada", he was appointed "1er Commissaire Diocésain, région Moncton". His involvement with the Scouts lasted 25 years. He was also a member of "Le Club d'âge d'or", enjoying various activities including darts, bowling and shuffleboard. He participated in the N.B. Friendship Games and the Canada Senior Games. He loved to travel, visiting Canada, the United States and Europe. He also enjoyed nature and spent his later years feeding and watching the birds and squirrels around his home. He will be best remembered by his family as a loving husband and doting father. Visitation at Funérarium Frenette, 2642 Acadie Rd., Cap-Pelé (577-3297) on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm and Thursday, from 9:30 am until time of departure. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am. on Thursday, March 19th, 2009 at Ste. Thérèse d'Avila Roman Catholic Church, Cap-Pelé. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
