GILLESPIE, EUGENE "GENE" E. - Gene was born in Moncton, son of the late Ernest and Valentine (McLachlan) Gillespie and passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, in Victoria, BC on Saturday, June 20, 2009, after a short, but courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 78. Gene will be sadly missed by his wife, Helen; son, Michael (Susanne); daughters, Karen (Mark), Colleen (Peter); grandchildren, Ryan, Adam and Rory; and brother Neil of Moncton. In addition to his parents, predeceased by sisters, June and Patricia, brothers, John and Ken. Gene had a varied career as a civil engineer at various locations across Canada. After an early retirement from Parks Canada, he worked for several years in real estate in Ontario, before retiring to Victoria in 1998 to enjoy good weather and year round golfing. He will be missed by friends in Victoria and Eastern Canada, the entire "Anderson Clan" and his golfing buddies at the Metchosin Golf Course. Memorial service to be held Tuesday, June 30, 2009, 2:00 pm at First Memorial, 1155 Fort St., Victoria, followed by a reception. In Gene's memory, donations to the Victoria Hospice or the Canadian Red Cross would be greatly appreciated.
