Dennis Donald Ginn

Passed on: November 29th, 2008

Jan. 25, 1953 - Nov. 29, 2008 Florence It is with broken hearts and deepest sorrow and regret that we announce the death of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Dennis Ginn. He passed away on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, An Cala Unit, surrounded by his loving and devoted wife and children, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Born in Toronto, Ont., Dennis was the son of the late Mary (Graham) Lamb, and Don Ginn. Dennis was a wonderful husband, dad and poppy who possessed a great passion for his family and close friends. He will ever be remembered for his wit, charm and the way he made everyone around him smile. As sick as Dennis was, he never complained, but focused his attention on cheering up everyone around him. His smile would light up a room. His strength and courage was truly remarkable. His final weeks were made a little easier by the 'Angels' that helped care for him on 413 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. His passion for cars and transport trucks led him to a career of 37 years in long haul truck driving which took him to many parts of the United States and Canada. He most recently was employed with S&M Trucking in Sydney. He made many friends along the way. He was always eager to help out others, no matter what the task was. He will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity to others. Dennis is survived by his loving and devoted wife and best friend Theresa (Williams-Strong) Ginn; his loving children, Michael (Barbara) Ginn, Tammy Ginn, both of Ontario, Cheryl Strong (Tommy), North Sydney, Lisa (Terry) Penny, Florence, and Joey Strong, at home. Also surviving are his precious grandchildren, all who held a special place in his heart, Brandan, Chantelle and Caitlyn, Ontario, Daryll, Ontario, Tiffany and Brianne, North Sydney, Ashley, his 'Little Angel' Terri-Lynn and of course 'Den Den's little buddy' Andrew (who he always blew his horn for), Florence. He is also survived by one brother, Steve Lamb (Wendy), Ontario; special aunt, Jeanne, Georgia, USA; sisters-in-law, Bridget Dawe, Carlotta Corbett; brothers-in-law, Joseph (Geraldine) Williams and Thomas (Hazel) Williams, all from Sydney Mines and his best friend and sidekick, James Hayden, North Sydney. Besides his parents, Dennis was predeceased by his stepfather, Vern Lamb and brothers-in-law, James Corbett and Thomas Dawe. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at 11 a.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Queen Street, Sydney Mines, with the Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. The burial will be in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dennis's memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
