STEEVES, RUDYARD STEPHEN (RUDY) 1918 - 2009 - On August 9, 2009, Rudyard Steeves passed away on his farm that he loved so much. Rudyard was born on July 23, 1918. He had just celebrated his 91st birthday. Born in Lower Coverdale, NB, he was the eldest son of the late Joseph and Gladys Steeves. He was married for over 60 years to his beloved wife, the late Lorna Steeves. Rudyard loved Holstein cows. He was passionate about the Holstein breed of dairy cattle and was actively involved in promoting registration of the breed and was president of the NB Holstein Association. He served on the Board of Directors of the Kent County Agriculture Fair. Rudyard could be found where Holstein cows were exhibited throughout the Maritimes. He loved golf and was a member of the Moncton Golf and Country Club and the Wildflower Golf and Country Club in Englewood, Florida. Rudyard loved his Lord and was an active member of the Lower Coverdale Baptist Church. He served in many positions such as Sunday School Superintendent and also Church Treasurer for 25 years. Rudyard also served in the NB Rangers and during WWII he actively served in the Military Hospital in Sussex, NB until 1946. He worked for the Federal Government for 42 years in the Department of Agriculture, Health of Animals Branch. Rudyard was also the Secretary Manager of the Maritime Winter Fair and ran a dairy farm of 150 head of Holstein cattle as his hobby. Rudyard's wisdom and leadership will be greatly missed. He is survived by his daughters, Joy Howe (Don) of Lower Coverdale and Charlene King (Terry) of Riverview; five of eight brothers and sisters, Lowell Gourley of Sherbrook, PQ, Vivian Stainforth (Arthur), Gwenie Atkinson both of Riverview, Charles Steeves (Marjorie) of Woodstock, Joseph Steeves (Doreen) of Stoney Creek. Rudyard was very proud of his seven grandchildren, Joe Howe (Holly), Mandi MacDonald (Nathan), Adam Howe (Cindy), Aaron Howe (Heather), Jenny Dempster (Shane), Jon Howe, Sara Simmons (David) and his fourteen great-grandchildren. As well as his wife, Rudyard was predeceased by brothers; K. Wallace (Bud) and Gerard Steeves, sister; Roberta Murray and a great-granddaughter Grace Howe. Visitation will be held at Cobb's Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd., Riverview, 869-2007 on Tuesday, August 11th, from 7-9pm. Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, August 12th, 1:00pm at the Lower Coverdale Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Allen officiating. Interment to follow at Wilmot Cemetery.
