75, New Waterford It is with great sadness that we, the family of Jerry MacSween, announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Bohen) MacSween. Jerry was employed as a mechanical supervisor at the heavy water plant. In later years, Jerry owned and operated Breton Cleaners in New Waterford with his son, Brian. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, New Waterford. A craftsman and a handyman, Jerry could fix most anything. He loved spending his summers at his bungalow in Catalone. Jerry was an avid reader and also enjoyed playing bingo and watching TV. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Wilma (Bates) MacSween; two sons, Brian (Patsy), New Waterford, and Kevin (Mitchell Davey), Montreal; a very special granddaughter, the love of his life, Breagh, New Waterford; one sister, Muriel (Ron) Healey, London, Ont.; three brothers, Lionel (Margie), Leo (Cheryl), both of Glace Bay, and Bart (Eva), Fredericton. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Anna Parsons, Helen Mercer, Loretta MacSween and one brother, Mike MacSween and twins in infancy. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, N.S., 862-7500. A funeral mass to celebrate Jerry's life will be held on Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard/Mount Carmel Church with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at St. Agnes Parish Hall, all are invited. Donations in Jerry's memory may be made to the cancer society or palliative care.
