ENNA ALICE (ROACHE) SKERRY
SKERRY, ENNA ALICE (ROACHE) - 1929-2009 - Enna Skerry, 79, of Riverview, NB, formerly of Halifax, NS, died of cancer on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the Moncton Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Catherine (MacLean) Roache and Clifford T. Roache. She was predeceased by her husband James Walter Skerry, Jr. of Halifax and by her partner George Foster of Riverview. While still in Nova Scotia, she worked for the Department of the Attorney General, travelling the province in the course of her duties; in Moncton, she worked for many years for Jones-Foster Insurance. Enna loved Jeopardy and anyone who knew her, knew enough not to telephone while Jeopardy was on. She also loved bridge and played with passion and determination. The members of her regular bridge group were her closest friends. Her daughters were well warned not to be phoning on bridge nights. It gave her great pleasure over the years to be at her sewing machine, making costumes and dresses for granddaughter Laura. She loved travelling and seeing new places and learning new things, and when not travelling she was happy to be an armchair traveller with a regular TV schedule of the travel programs. She achieved her yellow belt in Tai Chi and she swam faithfully for years. She loved a party and was always the most vivacious one in the room. Enna was a loving, steadfast, energetic, inquisitive, determined woman. She raised five daughters: Colleen Umlah of Bedford, NS; Sharon Skerry of Dartmouth, NS; Kerry Turner of Dartmouth, NS; Shelagh (Patsy Cormier) Skerry of Verdun, QC; Cathy (David) Elderkin of Moncton, NB. She had five grandchildren whom she adored: Jennifer (Rob) Baker, Hamilton, ON; Sarah Umlah, Bridgewater, NS; Marc (Melanie) Rozee, Dartmouth, NS; Andrew Rozee, Halifax, NS; Laura Elderkin, Moncton, NB. She also had three great grandchildren: Ethan, Luke, and Noah Rozee, Dartmouth, NS. She is survived by her brother and best friend, Tom Roache, Riverview, NB; and by brothers-in law and their spouses: Frank and Chris Skerry, Goodwood, NS; and Joseph O. and Marie Skerry, Halifax, NS; and by the family of George Foster. She was predeceased by her infant brother Alistair Roache; by her brother Basil Roache, by her son-in-law John Umlah, and by brothers- and sisters-in-law. The family wishes to thank the staff at The Moncton Hospital and especially the physicians and nurses who gave Enna such great care over the last few months. Special heartfelt appreciation goes to the staff of Oncology and Cardiology. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2-4 pm (only) at Cobb's Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview, NB (869-2007). A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, August 16 at 2 pm at Cobb's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with a reception to follow. Flowers are welcome if you wish but please consider making a donation to the Arthritis Society, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, your local food bank or to the charity of your choice in memory of Enna.
