Kieran Francis Fogarty

April 12, 1935-Dec. 4, 2008 Kieran Francis Fogarty, 73, of 130 Reeves St., Sydney, passed away peacefully Thursday Dec. 4, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, Kieran was the son of the late William and Margaret 'Peggy' (McNeil) Fogarty. He was a member of St. Anthony Daniel parish. Kieran worked as a stevedore for the Government Wharf for many years. His heart was devoted to his children and grandchildren and the many sports for which he enjoyed especially playing and coaching baseball. Kieran is survived by his former wife, Helen Louise (Burt) Fogarty; longtime friend and companion, Jessie MacDougall; daughters, Florence, Brenda, Jackie (Charlie); son, Kieran (Donna); seven grandchildren, Kyran, Gregory, Kyle, Cody, Cameron, Curtis, MacKayla and one expecting. He is also survived by sisters, Florence, Becky, Ricky, brothers, William, Clarence and Richard. Besides his parents, Kieran was predeceased by sisters, Natalie, Geraldine, May and Jacqueline and one brother, John. Visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 8 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass of celebration will take place 2 p.m., Tuesday Dec. 9 at St. Anthony Daniel Church with Fr. Donald MacGillivary officiating. Interment to take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks, with a reception to follow at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home.
