MACCHARLES, ELIZABETH KNOWLING NETHERCOAT MILLS - Elizabeth (Betty) MacCharles passed away peacefully at Pine Grove Nursing Home on Sunday, September 13, 2009 just short of her 90th birthday. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Nellie (Mitton) Nethercoat. Betty was born in Moncton, NB on September 24, 1919. She attended Mount Allison University in Fine Arts in 1939-40 before leaving to join the Army. She married E. Emerson Mills, an RCAF pilot, who was killed in an airplane crash in 1948. She later married Russell F. MacCharles, and after living briefly in Toronto and Montreal, moved to Fredericton in 1963. She leaves to mourn her, her two sons, Brian Mills (Judy) of Fredericton and Emerson Mills (Maureen) of Riverview; four grandchildren, Shaena (Mark) MacSween of Rothesay, NB, Andrew (Cindy) Mills of Fredericton, NB, Amanda (Eric) Sirois of Brooklin, ON, and Toban (Beth) Mills of Toronto, ON; and four great grandchildren, Colin and Claire MacSween, Madeline Mills and Whelly Sirois; daughter-in-law, Sharon Mills of Fredericton; several nieces and nephews, as well as a special friend, Donna Cosman. She was predeceased by her husband, Russell MacCharles and her brother, George Nethercoat. At her request, there will be no visitation and her family will have a private memorial service in the near future.
