O'LEARY, HAROLD J. - The death of Harold J. O'Leary, beloved husband of Jean (Groves) occurred peacefully at the Loch Lomond Villa Nursing Home on February 2, 2010. Harold was born on December 10, 1926 in Saint John to William and Annie (Breen) O'Leary. He is survived by sons R. Mark (Wendy) of Quispamsis, H. Thomas (Rita) of Plainfield, ON, Colin (Krista) of St. George, NB; daughters Claire Milne (Art) of Saint John, Valerie Russell (Todd) of Riverview, NB, Dawn O'Leary (Judy Argue) of Stittsville, ON, Nancy Gallop (Gary) of Burton, NB; brothers Alban (Doreen) and Patrick (Sandra); sisters Mary Wilson, Eleanor Mahoney and Carol Allen (Bill); grandchildren Angela, Andrew, Megan, Shannon, Matthew, Michael, Isaac, Emma-Lee; step granddaughter Janice as well as many nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by his brothers Victor and Martin and sister Maureen. Harold served in the army cadets during High School and went from there to the reserves to the Scottish Regiment transferring to RCASC. Went on to be Commanding Officer of 5 Independent Signals before retiring in 1966 at the rank of Major. He then worked as a horticultural manager for Smith Brokerage. Harold was active in the Simonds and Gondola Pt. Lions. He enjoyed camping, horseback riding and was a member of Northwest Travelers Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (646-2424). A memorial mass will be celebrated from St. Joachim's Church on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 11: 00 o'clock. Reception to follow at the Barrack Green Armoury Officers' Mess. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke, Canadian Cancer Society, Multiple Sclerosis or to the donor's choice.
