Catherine (Davis) Campbell, 67, Dartmouth left this earth, Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, after a long and painful struggle with cancer, with her devoted husband by her side.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Christopher and Bethe (MacPherson) Davis.
Catherine grew up in the Shipyard area of town. She graduated from Sydney Academy and went on to graduate from Sydney City Hospital School of Nursing, where she obtained her RN. She moved to Halifax, where she attended Dalhousie University obtaining a certificate in public health nursing. She worked at the Department of Social Services as a public health nurse at the same time attending Mount Saint Vincent University to further her education where she obtained a certificate in gerontology. She continued to work at a nursing home in Truro and later at Scotia Nursing Home in Beaverbank, and was director of nursing under the guidance of Murray Knowles who sponsored her to take the Litcom Course at the University of Ottawa. She then went to become administrator of Shoremham Village in Chester, then fulfilled a lifelong dream as administrator of the Cove Guest Home, Sydney.
Due to ill health a number of years later she returned to metro Halifax and served as a volunteer for several community groups dedicated to mental health issues including the Canadian Mental Health Association and the Nova Scotia Hospital where under the guidance of Anne McGuire and Linda MacMaster, Catherine developed the position of project officer of Consumer Resources, a position she truly enjoyed and held until 2004 when she became too ill to continue.
She is survived and will be dearly remembered by her devoted husband of 23 years, Joseph ‘Joe’; cherished son, Steven Crossman (Bernie). She is also survived by sister-in-law, Merle Davis; nephews, Robbie (Sarantip) Davis, Glen (Brenda) Davis and their daughters, Sarah Katey and Christy; sisters-in-law, Margaret (Ralph) Trenchard, Susan Campbell, Charlotte (Bruce) Mortimer and their children, Christopher and Brandy; special nephews, Allistair Trenchard, Arthur (Laura) Trenchard and their daughter, Jillian; aunts, Mayme (Sam) Debison and Dorothy ‘Dook’ (Paul) Langlois.
She was predeceased by brothers, Murray and Douglas, sisters, Marie and Catherine, cherished nephew, Christopher Davis, mother and father-in-law, Sidney and Eva Campbell.
A reception will be held to celebrate Catherine’s life in the church hall at St. Paul’s Church, Windmill Road, Dartmouth, from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, March 3.
