Field, Basil Earl - Basil Earl Field 82, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2010 at his home in East Lawrencetown, NS. Mr. Field was the beloved son of the late Earl and Millie (Treen) Field and cherished husband of the late Dorothy (Dot) Field. Basil, born and raised in Dartmouth was a graduate of Dalhousie University and the Technical University of NS. He worked at the Imperial Oil Refinery to finance his education. Basil was also a Second Lieutenant in the Corps of Royal Engineers, Canadian Army. He had a long and successful career serving in all Maritime Provinces as a civil engineer for C.N. Rail before retiring in Moncton at age 57. Although Basil's life was focused primarily on his family, his limited leisure time was spent curling, golfing, watching wrestling, reading car magazines and playing cards with his wife. Being a man of kindness, honesty and integrity, he lived by the motto " If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". Basil had three sisters, June Hull (deceased), Verna Field (Vancouver) and Ruby Dent (Ottawa). He is survived by his daughter Dorothy Cormier (Bob Belyea), son Peter (Lisa), grandchildren Adam, Ashlea (Tyler Dobson), Peter, Rein and Devin, great-grandchildren Taylor and Addison, several nieces, nephews and cousins, and special friends Dorothy Wentzell, Abbie and Alexis, all dearly loved.
A public graveside service will be held at 3pm., Friday, March 5, 2010 at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens, 1167 Salisbury Road, Moncton, NB. Fair Haven Funeral Home 1177 Salisbury Road (852-3530) in care of arrangements. A book of condolences may be signed at www.fairhavenmemorial.ca.
