It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Joseph Wall, age 83, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at the Glace Bay General Hospital.
He was born in Sydney in 1926, the son of the late James and Elizabeth (Fitzpatrick) Wall.
He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 128, Whitney Pier, Steelworkers and Pensioners Club and Club 55.
During his retirement, Ed was known for his fancy footwork at the many dances put on by many clubs in the area. He also enjoyed spending many afternoons at the Heather Bowling Lanes as a member of the Bicentennial and Steelworkers and Pensioners Leagues.
He is survived by his five daughters, Brenda (Mrs. Paul Landry), Donna Arsenault, Sandra (Mrs. Alonzo Collins), all of Sydney, Beverly (Mrs. Richard Grant), Pictou, Carmel Wall-Jennings, Ontario; three sons, Brian, New Brunswick, Keith (and wife, Donna), Glen (and wife, Lynn), both of Sydney; one sister, Queenie (Mrs. Richard MacNeil), Pickering, Ontario; 22 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Edith ‘Edie’; two sisters and seven brothers.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday 11 a.m., with Rev. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held on the lower level of the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
