Passed in: New Victoria, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: March 7th, 2010

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Theresa Muriel Harter (nee MacGillivray) of New Victoria, Cape Breton on March 7, 2010, at the New Waterford Hospital.
Born in Victoria Mines, she was a daughter of the late Waldon MacGillivray and Laura Mae (Ling).
Muriel was born and raised in Victoria Mines but raised her children in Toronto, Ont., where she worked for the Cancer Detection Clinic and made many life long friends both in her church (St. Margaret’s) and at work and in her neighbourhood. She was a devout Catholic who loved the church and did much work in all the parishes she belonged to.
She and her husband Herbert Harter retired to Victoria B.C. After her husband Herb died she returned home to Cape Breton. She led a full life and was always looking for ways to help others. She touched many lives and brought joy to us all. She loved to laugh, sing and if inspired maybe do a jig.
Muriel will be missed by her children, Linda ( Rick), Robert and John-Henry (Lee-Anne); her grandchildren, Jamie Lee, Tyler, Laura, John, Theresa-Anne and Linda and her one great-grandchild, James. She will be sorely missed by her surviving brothers, Jim MacGillivray and Blaise MacGillivray and sisters, Geraldine MacSween, Mary MacNeil and Bernadette Dunphy.
Muriel was predeceased by her husband, Herbert; brother, Waldon and sisters, Genevieve, Laura and Lenore.
Visitation will be held today (Tuesday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave., with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Carmel Centre. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery at a later date.
Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Parish of St. Leonard or a charity of one’s choice. No flowers by request.
