Loretta Marie (MacDonald) MacFarlane

Loretta Marie (MacDonald) MacFarlane

Born In: Castle Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada

Passed in: Big Pond, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: March 8th, 2010

On March 8, 2010, following a lengthy illness, Loretta answered the call of our heavenly father, home to his kingdom. With her adoring family by her side, Loretta’s passing was serene; we take consolation in our faith that she has been welcomed into the arms of her beloved husband, Steve, and her precious son, Angus, as well as by her parents, Angus and Marion (Cameron) MacDonald.
Loretta is survived by her daughters, Valerie (Terry) Raoul, Sydney, Lynn (John) Pronk, Big Pond; her brother, Jimmie (Cheryl) MacDonald, Sydney, and her three loving grandchildren, Nicole, John Steven and Michael, as well as several nieces and nephews.
At the time of her passing, Loretta was a patient at Cape Breton Regional Hospital and a resident of Harbourstone (Steelworker’s Lane), Sydney. She was born at Castle Bay, C.B., and was a resident of Big Pond throughout her youth and adulthood.
Loretta was employed for several years as grounds supervisor at MacDonald Consolidated School, Big Pond, until its closure in 1991. She enjoyed welcoming company to her home and serving her delicious homemade goodies and tea. Loretta loved family and community gatherings, as well as family outings — drives and weekends. Her grandchildren meant the world to her, and she to them. She delighted in relating stories and experiences to them, sharing good times, and baking with them in her own kitchen — filling their hearts with treasured memories. She had a great sense of humour, was an avid bingo player, and a loved Big Pond lady who will be fondly remembered by numerous friends and relatives.
Visitation will be at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexander St, Sydney, on Wednesday, March 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Loretta’s life will be held 11 a.m. St. Mary’s Church, Big Pond, on Thursday, March 11 with Father Joe Gillis officiating.
