NICKERSON, Michael William – 61, of Hebron, Yarmouth Co. It is with great sadness that the family of Mike Nickerson, announce his passing on February 28, 2010, at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on January 19, 1949, he was a son of the late Francis and Freda (Doucette) Nickerson. A graduate of St. Mary’s University, he enjoyed a rewarding career as a counselor with the Yarmouth Youth Correctional Center, leaving a positive influence on the youth. After retirement, being an avid naturist, Mike established a small lawn-care business where he looked forward to interacting with his customers. He is survived by brothers, Douglas, Arcadia; Kenneth (Roxy), Maugerville, NB; Philip (Audrey), Hebron; sisters, Mary (Verge) Slauenwhite, Bridgewater; Jeanette Comeau, Yarmouth; Eleanor, Toronto, ON; Shirley (Rick) Gogan, Dartmouth; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, Bob and Brenda. Funeral arrangements had been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Yarmouth. There was no visitation by family request. Funeral service was held at Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, March 3 at 10 a.m., Deacon Stephen Bourque officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. A reception was held following the interment at St. Ambrose Cathedral Jubilee Room. Family flowers only, please. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
