Susan Elizabeth Coombs

Born In: SYDNEY, Nova Scotia, Canada

Passed in: Victoria Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: March 12th, 2010

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we, the family of Susan Coombs, announce her sudden passing Friday, March 12, 2010, at home, with her loving husband by her side.
Born in Sydney, Susan was the daughter of the late Leonard and Jean (MacDonald) Clarke.
Susan is survived by Kenny, her beloved husband of 38 years; daughters, Allison (Al Black), Sydney, and Cindy (Allan) MacLennan, Porters Lake; son, Kenneth (Denise), Porters Lake; and brother, Joseph (Dorothy), Sydney. Nana will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Dean Alexander Black, Jenna Elizabeth Black and Lilly Catherine MacLennan.
With her kind heart and generous spirit, Susan touched so many people throughout her life. She cherished her family above all else, and was a loyal friend and confidante. Susan was an active member of St. Alban’s Church and a tireless volunteer who served on countless committees and with numerous community groups. She was always ready to help those in need. Her passing is a tremendous loss, not only to her family, but also to the community and to everyone who knew her, especially Sharon Walsh and Danny Campbell, life-long friends.
Susan worked in health care as a licensed practical nurse before joining the Cape Breton Regional Municipality’s Recreation Department. She was employed with the department for many years, most recently with the East Division (New Waterford, Dominion and Area). She was a wonderful role model for youth and was highly respected by her peers.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, March 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. A celebration of Susan’s life will be held Wednesday, March 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Alban’s Church, with Rev. Brenda Drake officiating. A reception will be held in the church hall following the funeral.
Many thanks to everyone who supported Susan and her family over the past several months.
Donations may be made to St. Alban’s Memorial fund. An educational bursary has been established in Susan’s memory for a university student, and donations may be made at any Credit Union.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
