Robert Duane Stone

(September 25, 1944 - March 11, 2010). Bob passed peacefully from the loving arms of his wife and daughter into the loving arms of God on Thursday evening March 11, 2010 at his home in St. John’s. Predeceased by parents Roland and Winnifred Stone, brother Peter, sister Cathy and parents-in-law William and Bertha Pilgrim. Leaving to mourn loving wife of 44 years and best friend, Joan; daughter Nancy (Jim Burgess), Paradise and beloved grandson Zackary whom Bob adored. Missing him also is his faithful little canine friend, Boo. Mourning the loss of their brother are: Daphne (Bruce Bradbury), Bay Roberts and their children, Donnie (Tina), Halifax, Peggy (Rick), Calgary and Robert, Toronto; Clarence (Peggy), St. John’s and their children, David (Colleen) and family. St. John’s; Jennifer (Ian Campbell), Australia; and Michael, St. John’s; Faye (David Andrews), Hr. Grace; Jackie (Doug Puddicombe), Calgary and their children, Ryan and Jessica; brother-in-law Robin Pilgrim (Norma), London, Ontario. Leaving also aunts, uncles and cousins as well as many lifelong friends in the Carbonear and Harbour Grace area. Upon graduating high school, Bob enlisted in the RCAF following which he returned to Newfoundland and worked at the Argentia Naval Base and at Labrador City as a firefighter. He later began working with his father in the Insulation trade where he remained for over 30 years. Upon retirement from the construction industry, Bob taught his Insulation Mechanic trade to students at Academy Canada; and so mourning him also are his colleagues, students and staff of Academy Canada as well as the members of the International Association of Heat, Frost and Asbestos Workers. Cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends may visit the family at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Monday, March 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel. As Bob was a great lover of a beautiful garden and all that grew within, the family will gratefully accept flowers in his memory or donations may be made to the Dr. H.
