SCHASCHL - The family of Karl Otto Schaschl, Amherst, are greatly saddened to announce his passing on Thursday, March 17, 2010. Born in Villach Austria in 1929, he was a son of the late Anthony and Veronika (Susitti) Schaschl.
Karl immigrated to Canada in his early 20's and this is where he spent most of his life. He was well known for his snow sculptures, his enthusiasm for the holidays and his passion for gardening. His attitude, determination, integrity and inventive spirit will never be forgotten.
Karl will be sadly missed by his wife of 21 years, Jean Schaschl; daughter, Kim (Charlie Atkinson) Schaschl of Moncton; son Tony (Jan Bailey) Schaschl of Barrie, ON; Stepdaughter Carole (Robert Pickering) Wilson, Amherst; grandson, Connor Schaschl; step grandchildren, Frank (Nicolle) Wilson, Gary (Crystal) Wilson; step great grandchildren Michael and Tyler Fury; brother, Hansi Schaschl; as well as several nieces and nephews. Karl will be especially missed by his poddle Lexie.
Besides his parents Karl was predeceased by his Canadian mother, Beth Cutter, and sister, Leni Mayer.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361) from where visitation was held Sunday, March 21, from 2-4 pm. A Memorial Service was held Monday, March 22, 2010, at 3 pm from the Funeral Home with The Reverend Elizabeth Davies officiating. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill, at a later date.
