Mary Mercedes O'Neill
Passed peacefully away with her family at her side at Palliative Care, L.A. Miller Centre on Saturday August 23, 2008, Miss Mary O'Neill in her 95th year. Mary was a loving and devoted sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, and friend. Born in Bay Roberts, N.L. Many may know Mary from her 45-year teaching career across Newfoundland including St. Teresa's School in St. John's where she retired as vice-principal in 1977. Mary was predeceased by brothers: Patrick O'Neill, Stephen O'Neill, John Godsell and sister-in-law Elsie O'Neill. Mary leaves to celebrate a long and beautiful life her dear sister Anne, husband Stan McDivitt, sister-in-law Nellie Godsell, her very special niece Annette Godsell, her husband Don Aspell and her treasured great-nephew Ryan Aspell. Nieces and nephews: The Godsells: Alicia, husband Ted Brettner and son Harrison, Michael, wife Margot Gordon and son James; Shaun, wife Lori and daughters Hillary and Alicia. The O'Neills: Edwardine (Mike White), Alice (Harold Miles), Molly (Knut Larsen), Peggy (Frank Walsh) and Pat (Trudy). The McDivitts: Brian (Carol), John (Michelle), Elaine (Paul VanderMolen), Cynthia and Sharon (Johnny Mele) and their families. Her dear friends: Msgr James Doody, the members of St. Anne's Sodality and Catholic Women's League, St. Patrick's Church, the retired teachers of St. Teresa's School and many other relatives and friends. Mary will be resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road with visitation on Sunday from 2 p.m.-9 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick's Church, Patrick Street on Tuesday, August 26th at 9:30 a.m. The Rite of Committal to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted or donations may be made in Mary's name to St. Patrick's Parish Repair Fund, 6 Patrick Street, P.O.
