It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of Jean “Nin” Elizabeth Cairns of Quispamsis, wife of the late Murray Cairns, on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 21, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Stan and Elizabeth (Beek) Rushton. Jean was employed at Emmerson Brothers before working at JD Irving – Golden Ball as an Assistant Credit Manager for many years before her retirement. She enjoyed spending many summers at Pleasant Lake Campground in Maine, where she made many special friends, watching curling and the hockey games but most of all she adored her loving family.
Jean is survived by one son, Ronald Cairns (Cathy) formerly of Saint John; grandchildren, Lindsay, Devon, Michaela and Ann (Paul) Opdam; one daughter, Dale Martin (Bruce) of Quispamsis; grandchildren, Andrew and Alec; one brother, Donald Rushton (Audrey) of Rothesay and nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Jean is predeceased by her sister, Hazel Barge.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 from Brenan’s Chapel at 2:00 PM. Interment to take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, Restorative Care Unit. www.brenansfh.com
