Alice Josephine MacDonald

Passed on: January 29th, 2009

94, East Margaree/Glace Bay Its is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Alice MacDonald. Mom went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Jan. 29, 2009, at Sacred Heart Community Centre, Cheticamp, after a brief illness. Born in Halifax, Alice was the daughter of the late Thomas Amelius and Agnes (Willox) Roberts. Alice was blessed with a wonderful sense of humour that she maintained to the end. She was a faithful loving wife, a nurturing mother, an adored grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a good friend and neighbour. She treasured her fellowship at Shores Acres Assembly in Burlington. She maintained her strong faith, and it helped her in her darkest hours. She enjoyed music, singing and playing the piano. She also had fond memories of singing in Knox United Church choir. She was an avid traveller, having made trips to Africa, England, U.S.A. and parts of Canada. Alice was a strong proponent of education for herself and her family. She touched the lives of all those who knew her, even if it was only for a brief time. Alice is survived by her daughters, Lillian (Frank) Stiller, Ontario, Sharon (Robert) Millar, Ontario, Alice (Marc) Brindeau, South Africa, Jean MacDonald, Kentville, Margaret (George) Blois, Margaree, Doreen (Rev. Dr. Peter) Barnes, Ottawa; daughter-in-law, Marguerite MacDonald, Hubbards; and two sons, Harvey, Ontario, Daniel (Victoria) MacDonald, Bridgewater. Also surviving are stepbrothers, Alex (Kay) Johnston, Buffalo, Rev. Alan Johnston, Burlington; and one stepsister, Mae (James) MacKinnon, Ottawa. Alice also had 27 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was predeceased by her husband, Archibald Alexander MacDonald in January of 1972, son, Robert MacDonald, daughter, Agnes MacDonald, brothers, Henry and Samual Roberts and stepbrother, Daniel Johnston.
