Donald ‘Donnie’ John MacFarlane, 64, of Baddeck, N.S., died Friday, March 13, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Inverness, he was the son of Isabel (Matheson) and the late Gordon MacFarlane.
Donnie was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Baddeck. Donnie attended Temple Business College, Washington, D.C. He was employed by National Geographic Society. He was employed in the hospitality industry in Baddeck, Halifax and the Virgin Islands. His greatest talent was storytelling, sometimes embellishment and always with humour. Please remember Donnie by making someone laugh.
He is survived by his mother, Isabel (Matheson) MacFarlane; brother, Shane (Agnes), Peter (Isabelle); sisters, Mary (Bob) Hill, Margot (Donnie) Macaulay, Aynsley; special friend, Doug Fowler; nieces and nephews, Derek (Laura), Brenda, Mel (Stephanie) MacFarlane, Margaret (Tim), Katherine, Alex MacAulay; grandniece, Paige and grandnephew, Kenzie MacFarlane; and a number of cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Gordon MacFarlane.
Visitation at MacAskill Funeral Home from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 17. The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 18 at Knox Presbyterian Church, Grant Street, Baddeck, with Rev. Cameron Brett officiating. Burial will be a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Branch, 6960 Mumford Rd., Suite 15, West End Mall, Halifax, N.S., B3L 4P1.
A special thanks to the Renal Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, the staff of the Taigh na Mara Nursing Home, especially his physician of many years Dr. Carlyle Chow.
