Phyllis Madeline (Vance) Hill, 87, of Upper Onslow, passed away on March 14, 2009 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro.
Born in Great Village, she was a daughter of the late Hilbert and Hattie (Toole) Vance of Great Village.
Phyllis received her early education in Great Village and later graduated from the Provincial Normal College. She taught school in Cumberland County. She was a life member of the Alumni Association of the Nova Scotia Teachers College. She was also a member of the Onslow United Church and a charter member of the United Church Women. Phyllis had a great love of flowers and was an avid gardener, having won many awards with her flowers at exhibitions in the area. She was a member of the Nova Scotia Dahlia Society.
She is survived by sons Angus (Darlene), Arthur (Ellen), both of Upper Onslow; Donald (Gail), Burlington, Ontario; sister Amy Denning, Cold Lake, Alta.; brother Bayne, Ashmont, Alta.; granddaughters Lisa, Kimberly and Crystal; grandsons Tony, Michael and Craig; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Ross; sister Ethel Oderkirk.
There will be no visitation by request. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 17 at 2 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, with Rev. Gerald Kerr and Rev. Alice Rutherford officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in the Onslow Island Cemetery. Family flowers only.
