It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our uncle Mike on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, Mike was the son of the late Alexander and Lillian (MacInnis) Steele. He was a member of St. Pius X parish, Sydney Mines.
He was the last surviving member of his family.
Mike lived and worked in New Waterford as a coal miner for most of his life. In his later years, he moved back to Sydney Mines, where he resided with his niece Brenda (Darryle) Pyke.
He leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews, and a very special sister-in-law, Rose (Steele) MacKinnon.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Miriam, Lillian and brothers John, Alexander, and Bernie.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A memorial mass celebrating Mike’s life will be held in St. Pius X Church, Main Street, Sydney Mines, on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Hughie MacNeil officiating. A reception will follow the mass in the Sydney Mines Legion.
