SMITH (Grant), Doris Margaret "Dorsie", age 85, of Middle Musquodoboit, and who formerly lived in Lower Vaughan, Hants County, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in the Braeside Nursing Home, Middle Musquodoboit. Born on June 19, 1923, in Elderbank, Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late John Albert Grant and Mabel (Flemming) Grant. Dorsie was a formermember of Elmview Rebeccak Lodge No.87. She was an adherant of the Middleton United Church, Middle Musquodoboit, a member of the South Unit of the U.C.W.and the Ladies Aid. She loved to travel, sew, bake, and enjoyed playingcards and bingo. Dorsie was a loving, giving person to all her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all those who loved and knew her. Dorsie is survived by nieces, Jackie (Ron) Patton and Debbie (Darrell) Dunn, both of Truro; Barbara (Albert) Jazey, Surrey, B.C.; nephews, Douglas(Cindy) Grant, Truro; Gary (Lorenda) Grant, Bridgewater; Arthur (Sally)Grant, Sundrie, Alta.; also numerous other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; her sisters-in-law, Lois Smith, Lower Vaughan; Emma Patterson, Martock. Dorsie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, MaynardCharles Smith; sister, Florence LaPierre, Halifax; her brothers, GordonGrant and wife, Hattie, of Boston, Mass.; Creighton Grant and wife, Marg, of Halifax; Donald Grant and wife Dolly, of Truro; also by a brother, Albert in infancy. A special thanks to all the staff at the Braeside Nursing Home,Middle Musquodoboit, for their kindness and care they gave to Doris duringthe years she had spent at Braeside. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor, where a visitation will be held, 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, March 21. A visitation willalso be held, 1 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2009, until funeral service time at 2 p.m. in the Middleton United Church, Middle Musquodoboit. The Rev. Marjory Cornelius will officiate. Interment will take place later in the spring, at the Hillside Cemetery, Middle Musquodoboit. Donations in memory of Dorsie may be made to the CNIB, 6136 Almon Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia ~ B3K 5L9.
