Richard Allan Welch
February 11, 1964 - March 18, 2009
Richard (Ric) Allan Welch passed away suddenly on March 18, 2009. Ric will be sadly missed by his dad Jim of Saskatoon; sisters Sherry of Nanaimo B.C, Sandi and Brenda of Saskatoon; brothers Joe of Nanaimo BC, Jack of Saskatoon and Jim of Calgary AB. Ric is also survived by his brothers-in-law Rick (Sandi) Lacroix, Ron (Sherry) Ellis and sister-in-law Elaine (Jim). In addition Ric is survived by nephews Jamieson Lacroix and Ryan Ellis; nieces Jessalyn How (nee Lacroix) and Ronnelle Ellis. Ric is also survived by a great nephew Lachlan Lacroix and great niece Madison How. Ric had many uncles, aunts and cousins that knew and loved him very much. His mother Lilly predeceased Ric in 1998. Ric was born in Prince Albert, SK on February 11, 1964 where he was raised as a child in a family with 7 children. The Welch family unit thrived through love because of the family environment provided by his mom and dad. Ric had a great love of Classical music and self taught himself piano and violin. Without any formal training he auditioned and performed at an entrance exam at the University of Saskatchewan where he was accepted as a student and consequentially studied classical music. After 3 years of study at the University he returned to his home in Prince Albert to care for his mother who had suffered a stroke. It was obvious to those who new Ric that he had tremendous devotion to his parents, who he loved and cared for many years as a primary caregiver. He sacrificed many things during his brief life in order to devote himself and his resources to caring for his mother before she passed away with a stroke in 1998. In 2001 Ric and his dad relocated to Saskatoon where Ric attended SIAST receiving his diploma in Computer Systems Technology 3 years later. Soon after the completion of this course and until the time of his death, Ric was the primary caregiver of his father, Jim. The family wished that they could thank him again for his personal sacrifices, but his untimely death will not allow that in a vocal way. The family’s prayers are with him, as we know that he has joined his mother in God’s hands. Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 260 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with celebrant Reverend Father Matthew Nguyen. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, Lorne Adams, Funeral Director.
