Shirley Eileen "Mom" Vance of Bible Hill, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, with her family at her side.
Born on Harmony Road July 12, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Ida (McCallum) Taylor.
In her working years, she was a machine operator at Stanfield's Ltd. and at Polymer International. She was a former member of the Main Brace Naval Veterans Association and also a member of their auxiliary where she served as president, secretary and treasurer, and a member of their bowling team for many years. Mom loved to play TV and radio bingo and loved playing cards.
She leaves behind to mourn her husband Keith; daughter Wanda Parker (Wally) North River; son Keith Jr. (Brenda Burke) Louisburg, N.S.; grandchildren Stephanie Miller, Amanda and Wally Jr. Parker, Austin Blaauendraat-Wheeler, Justin Greencorn, Zackery Vance; great-grandchildren Summer and Taylor Hunsley, Nicholas Miller-Jobb; brothers Howard Taylor (Janet) London, Ont.; Frank Taylor (Mae) Brookfield, N.S.; Hugh Taylor (Loretta) Valley, N.S.; sister Ruth Totten (Ted) Debert, N.S.; special friend Vera Collier, Bible Hill; many nieces, nephews and many people who she was "Mom" to.
She was predeceased by her daughter Heather in infancy; sisters Margaret and Jean.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, all in Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro, with Rev. Betty Darby officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Watson Cemetery, Truro. No flowers by family request. Donations in Mom's memory may be made to the Victoria Order of Nurses or to the Palliative Care Unit of Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro.
