Malcena Grace Richard, 78, Kenzieville, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by her large and loving family on March 21, 2009, in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow.
Born in Antigonish, she was a daughter of the late George K. and Malcena Grace (MacIver) MacKay.
She was a member of Barney's River Presbyterian Church, Kenzieville, and Dr. E. G. B. Foote Auxiliary of the Atlantic Mission Society. She was a member of Barney’s River Ladies Aid and Quilters group.
Her life revolved around her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grace will be remembered for her strength, quiet nature, selflessness, kind and unfailing ability to see the beauty in everyone and everything.
She leaves behind her husband of 57 years, John Joseph Richard; children: Ned (Kathy) Richard, Alta; Kenda (Mack) Rice, Stellarton; Gilda (Allister) Stalker, Kirby (Clara) Richard, Alta; Tony (Brenda) Richard, Bridgewater; Daryl (Joyce) Richard, Piedmont; daughter-in-law, Ruby Richard, Alta; siblings: Isobel (John) Wesley, New Glasgow; Joy (Doug) Williams, Bedford; Donald MacKay, New Glasgow; sisters-in-law, Irene MacKay, New Glasgow; Ethel Mac Kay, Halifax; brother-in-law, Baillie Matheson, Gairloch; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Steven; sisters, Jean Diane MacKay in infancy, Dolina Matheson; brothers, George David in infancy, Robert, David; sister-in-law, Diane (Cameron) MacKay.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Barney’s River Presbyterian Church with Rev. Larry Welch officiating.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in her memory to Barney's River Presbyterian Church Ladies Auxiliary, Canadian Cancer Society (Nova Scotia Division), Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Victorian Order of Nurses (Pictou County Branch), or Daybreak Prison Ministry.
