Norma Frances McLaughlin, age 88, of MacKay Street, Stellarton, passed away on March 21, 2009, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Mulgrave, she was a daughter of the late Robert Lester and Bessie Blanche (Grant) Hunson.
Norma was a resident of Stellarton for the past 64 years. She was an adherent of Christ Anglican Church. Norma was a member of Southern Cross Rebekah Lodge No. 3 where she was Past Noble Grand, Canton Dryden No. 4 P.M., Harmony Chapter OES No. 25 from where she received her 50 year jewel and was Past Matron. Norma was a member of Branch No. 28 Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Stellarton, where she received her 50 year jewel. She was also the recipient of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal from the Canadian Legion. After her husband’s retirement from the army, they operated McLaughlin’s Flowers and Nursery. She was also a former employee of MT&T.
Surviving are daughters: Mary (Allen) Reid, Riverton; Janice McLaughlin, Stellarton; grandchildren: Michael (Terry Lee) Reid, Ottawa; Kimberley (David) MacLean, Durham, Candace Reid, Riverton; Jennifer McLaughlin and Robert (Carrie) McLaughlin, both of Stellarton; great-grandchildren: Paige, Madison and Taylor McLaughlin, Isaac Reid, Tyler and Luke MacLean; sister, Marion (Everett) Read, Halifax; brother, Russell Hunson, Sydney; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins; a brother-in-law, Jack Wrathall, Glace Bay.
Norma was special mom to Donald Campbell, Amherst; Charles Campbell, Bedford; and Rhea Diamond, Ontario.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert (Bob); son, Robert in infancy; sisters: Minnie Lawrence, Leta Wolfe, Ella Murray, Margaret Wrathall and Della in infancy.
Her remains will rest at her late residence, 147 MacKay Street, Stellarton,
for visitation from 7-9 p.m. Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Sharon St. John
United Church with Rev. John Roy and Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating.
Burial will be in the Seaview Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Norma may be made to the Shriners or to ESTRAL.
