Gordon, Sarah “Ann” - Truro - On March 23, 2009 we lost our mother and best friend who passed away in the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in South River, Antigonish County, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Callaghan) Kelly. The eldest of nine children, she spent the first part of her life on the family farm. Active throughout her long life, Ann was well known and respected in the Truro community. She had the reputation of being honest, friendly and straight forward. Her door was always open to anyone seeking sage advice. Ann enjoyed a 20 year career in retail at Margolians Ltd. and later she was employed at Lloyd Smith’s . A few of the many activities that Ann enjoyed included maintaining a 45 year membership in the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Branch 26. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League for 37 years. She enjoyed many years at the family cottage in Marshville and maintaining a beautiful garden. Ann enjoyed her "Bridge Club" playing with the same group of friends for over 60 years. She will be best remembered by family and friends for her strong faith in God and her church. She is survived by daughters, Brenda (David) Randall, Bedford, Karen (Phil) Cole, Truro, Karla (Kirby) Thompson, Truro; daughter-in-law, Betty Hirtle-Gordon, Enfield; grandchildren, Stephen (Young-ah) Gordon, Janet (Rick) Caravona, Lindsay (Jeremy) Delorey, Nicholas and Jeff Cole, Kris and Kelsey Thompson; great grandchildren, Davin, Ewan, Keenan Gordon, Addison and Emmerson Caravona; brother John Kelly St. Andrews, sister Mary Martin, Ontario, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph ; son Brian; sisters, Nora Kelly, Florence Smith brothers, Hughie, Dan, Maurice, Mike; sisters-in-law, Mary Thomas, Charlotte Gordon, Florence Warren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6-9 pm with a Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxilary Tribute Service at 7: 00 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro; Funeral service on Thursday at 11:00 am in Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince Street with Father Lloyd O’Neill officiating. Spring interment in Robie Street Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to Kane’s Kitchen (Immaculate Conception Church) or the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Equipment Fund.
