AVIS - Christine Louise, age 84 years of Cabri, SK, passed away March 16, 2009, at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. The funeral service was held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, March 20, 2009, from the Scandia Lutheran Church, Cabri, SK, with Pastor Brad Julien officiating. The eulogist was Kyla Avis and special music was provided by Gail Kleim, Heather Arnelien and Lexie Culham. The ushers were: Robert Jackson and Allen Fahselt and the pallbearers were: Curtis Svenson, Dennis Dickie, Andy Shirkie, Danny Arnelien, Hugh Greer and Gene Kleim. The internment service took place at the Scandia Lutheran Cemetery in the Cabri district. Christine is survived by a son: Donovan (Charlaine) Avis - grandchildren, Shereice (Chris) Harker, Kyla, Kendall (Mike) Wicks and a great grandson Liam Harker; a daughter Sharlene (David) Lindstrom - grandchildren Jeff (Barbara) Adena and Neil Lindstrom; a sister-in-law Gladys Wright and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Stanley Avis in 2006; her parents Lars and Birgit Svenson; brothers Stanley, Clarence; and sisters Gladys Florence and Bernice. Christine was born March 24, 1924 at Cabri, SK. She attended school at Cabri then Normal School at Moose Jaw. She taught at Mother Well School in Maple Creek for a short time. Christine married Stanley Avis on October 29, 1944, at the Svenson farm in the Cabri area and became a full time homemaker. She was an active member of the Cabri Brass Band Auxiliary, belonged to numerous clubs and the Cabri Seniors. She and Stan travelled extensively and spent many winters in Yuma, Arizona. Special interests included knitting, crocheting, crafts of all kinds, cooking, baking, cards, dancing and gardening. Christine loved life, family, friends and neighbours. She was a proud Norwegian and spent countless hours knitting and card playing. She had a special spot in her heart for great grandson, Liam Harker and she loved animals. Memorial donations in her memory to the Prairie Health Care Centre Auxiliary, Cabri, SK, to the Scandia Lutheran Church in Carbi, or to the choice of the donor, would be appreciated by the family.
