MATHEWS - Judith (Nee: Cardwell) of Herbert, SK, passed away on March 19, 2009, in the Herbert Hospital at the age of 67 after a hard fought battle with cancer. A memorial service for Judith Mathews was held on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at the Mennonite Brethren Church of Herbert, SK, with Pastor Bob Cappelle officiating. Interment for Judith Mathews took place in the Herbert Community Cemetery. Judith is survived by her Husband Christopher Mathews; children, Michael Mathews of Calgary, AB, Jennifer (Rob) Cannon of Herbert, SK, and Christine Morrison of Calgary, AB; grandchildren; Chelsea Cannon, Katie Cannon, Joshua Cannon and Sarah Cannon; brother, David Cardwell of Surrey, BC; and sister Beth (Les) McCormick of Oakville, ON. Judith is predeceased by her parents Roy and Joan Cardwell of Oakville, ON. Judith was born on December 28, 1941, in Warrington, England, and came to Winnipeg in 1953, where she attended The Covent of the Sacred Heart. Judith later lived in Calgary and Toronto. She married Christopher Mathews on August 24, 1971, in Oakville, ON. Judith was an artist; she loved silversmithing, printmaking, ceramics, oils, acrylics and watercolour painting. She also did Ukrainian egg decorating, quilting, knitting and photography. She previously belonged to the Fort Saskatchewan Art Society. Her latest endeavour was computer generated artwork and wanted to get into animation. Judith was also a member of the Red Hats Society in Strathmore, and later started a chapter in Herbert. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Judith's name to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Herbert Integrated Health Facility. Culham/Bowers Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
