Peacefully at the Maplewood Manor, Alberton, on Monday, March 23, 2009, with her family by her side of Mary Marion Gavin of the Maplewood Manor, Alberton, and formally of Tignish age 87 years. Beloved wife of the late Claude Gavin who predeceased her in 1973. Born Sept. 2, 1921, she was the daughter of the late James and Laura (nee Handrahan) Harper. Lovingly remembered by her children, Irene (Patrick) Handrahan, John (Auldine), Kevin (Susan), Leonard (Brenda), Wayne, Barbara (David) Gaudet, Patrick (Linda), and Claude, all of Tignish. She will also be sadly missed by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dear sister to Freda Gavin and Amy Hogan of Tignish. She was predeceased by sons, Howlan, David and Wilbert. She was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Claude, Dan, Grace Nelligan, Florence MacPhee, Dorothy Doyle, Dora Shea and Laura Gavin. Resting at the Rooney Funeral Home, Alberton. Visiting hours Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral on Thursday morning from St. Simon and St. Jude Church Tignish for funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment later in the parish cemetery. If so desired memorials to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Alzheimer’s Society would be gratefully appreciated.
