The death occurred peacefully, with family at his side, on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, of Elmer Newson, of Willow Avenue, Summerside, aged 96 years. Born in Westmoreland, he was the son of the late Hammond and Susan (Ackland) Newson. Survived by his wife Beulah (Hopper) Newson, sons, Elmer (Audrey), Wayne (Judith), daughter, Kay (Russell) Rogers, grandchildren, Karen (Philippe) Outerleys, Deborah (David) Schurman, Michael, Scott (Leanne), Richard, Tamara (Jeff) MacNeil, Traci (David) Harbord, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, step-children Sharon (Tom) Shadbolt, Ralph (Suzanne) Brewster and Shelly Simmons. Predeceased by his first wife, Helen Thompson, and brothers and sisters, Raymond, Stephen, Lawrence, Hammond, Irene, Dorothy, Arthur, Enoch and Edna. Resting at the Moase Funeral Home, Summerside, until Friday, then to the Summerside Baptist Church, where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Interment later in Peoples Cemetery, Summerside. Visiting hours Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Summerside Baptist Church or the Prince County Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
