The family of Patrick Kennedy Brown regrets to announce his sudden passing in hospital on March 26, 2009.
Born in Glace Bay, March 8, 1925, Pat was the son of the late Mary Jane (Kennedy) Brown and John William Brown of MacKay’s Corner.
During his younger years, Pat worked in the coal mines of Glace Bay and was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces. After living and working in Ontario, Pat returned to Glace Bay where he owned and operated a very successful business and was also property manager for Marty Chernin. After his retirement, Pat resided in Florida for a number of years.
Pat is survived by his wife, Jessie, Ontario; his children, John (Lynn), Debbie (Jim Goddard), both of Ontario, Keith (Lynn), Calgary, Lorne (Sonya), Ontario, Patsy, Calgary, and Troy, Ontario; a number of grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pat is also survived by his brothers and sisters who were always there for him, Frank (Doris), Kentville, Sheldon (June), Glace Bay; sisters, Chrissie (Mrs. Jigger Phalen), Glace Bay, and Mella (Mrs. Melvin White), Glace Bay; very special niece, Wilma ‘Billie’ (Mrs. Wilfred Boutilier); many nieces and nephews; special companion, Rene Labelle and good friends, Mike Nugent and Leo MacSween.
Besides his parents, Pat was predeceased by his son, Dwight, a son in infancy, brothers, Buster, John, Mannie, Allister and Roy, and sister, Helen.
Visitation will take place Sunday, March 29 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Gerald Campbell, is Monday at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church, MacKay’s Corner, Glace Bay. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Interment will be held at a later date in the parish cemetery.
