Arnold Leo Spence April 7, 1926 – December 21 2008 Arnold Leo Spence passed away on Sunday Dec 21, 2008 at Oakside Manor in Enderby, BC. Arnold is survived by his daughters: Diane Martin (Grant), Pat Conrod (Rick), Jane Snelgrove (Bryan), Susan Smith (Willy) and Kathy Taylor (Rod); 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; sister Pat and brother Basil ( Buddy). He was predeceased by his wife Mary Elizabeth (Bette); his father Percy; mother Mary; sisters Alvada, Juanita, Audrey and brother Percy. Arnold was born in Springhill NS. He served 7 years in the Canadian Army including serving in the front lines of WWII. He worked several years in the Springhill coal mines until following the bump of 1956, he moved his family to BC. He worked in the Bluebell Mine in Riondel BC until its closure in 1972 when he transferred with Cominco to work at the Smelter in Trail. Upon retiring he returned to live in Riondel. He was a familiar face for many years selling poppies at the Kootenay Bay ferry. For those wishing, donations in Arnold’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
