Aged 87, of Springhill, Bessie Leah Hunter passed away on March 27, 2009 at the Cumberland Regional Health Center. Born in Rodney, she was a daughter of the late Percy and Jean (Colborne) Smith. Leah, loved to knit, and was addicted to crossword puzzles. She was an active member of the Pythian Sisters. She always enjoyed an annual trip to the Maple Sugar Woods at Easter time on the four wheeler. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. In addition to her husband Herb, she will be sadly missed by her daughters Mary (Raymond) Brown, Guelph, Ont.; Catherine (Danny) Moore, Springhill; Deborah (Edward Chute) Hacz, Springhill; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Alfred (Arlene) Smith, Rodney; sister, Annie Smith, Springhill; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son-in-law Louis Nyitrai-Hacz; brother William; sister Helen Fraser; grandsons, David and Jonathon Brown. Arrangements have been entrusted to A. H. Brown Funeral Service, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill (902-597-2361) where visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, March 31 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on April 1, 2009 at 2 p.m., Rev. David Lloyd Pierce officiating. Burial will take place in the Rodney Cemetery in the spring.
