Doris Ward
Passed on: January 28th, 2008
Aged 67, of Parrsboro, Cumberland County, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 28, 2008 at home. Born in Union Valley (Parrsboro), she was a daughter of the late Conrad and Georgie ‘Sally’ (Wilcox) Myers. Doris moved to Dartmouth with her husband in 1965. Once her children were all in school, Doris began working at the Shannon Park Recreation Centre where she became known to all of the kids as the “Candy Lady.” Doris returned to Parrsboro with her husband in 1981 after the purchase of the house she had always dreamed of owning. She was employed at the Glooscap Restaurant and Lounge from 1982 until 1999 where she was Assistant Manager, cook, bartender and waitress. Doris was a hard working woman who dedicated her life caring for others. She had ‘hands of gold’ creating the most beautiful gardens and precious crafts, as well as cooking and baking for all. She will be greatly missed but will never be far from her family for she will be the sparkle in the snow, the leaves that blow in the wind, the sun and rain that makes the garden grow and the quiet bird at night circling about. Doris is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ronald J. Ward; daughters, Cathy Ward, Parrsboro; Sharon Lalonde (Marc), Bathurst; sons, Ronald Jr. (Susan), Saint John; Darrell (Lisa); Larry (Heather), all of Parrsboro; a brother, Gerald Myers (Patti), Saint John; half brother, Cecil Wilcox (Mary), Parrsboro; 13 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild. She was predeceased by half brothers, Banford Wilcox and Calvin Wilcox. There will be no funeral service by request. Memorial donations may be made to Palliative Care of South Cumberland Community Care Centre, the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of choice. The family would like to extend special thanks to the Palliative Care of South Cumberland Community Care Centre, especially Lisa Mills, Dr. Atkinson and Heather D. and Sherene G. of the VON. Arrangements entrusted to Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro.
