Joseph Lewis Austin

Aged 77 years of Elm Street, Springhill, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 21, 2008, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Nappan, surrounded by his family. Born in Springhill in 1931, he was a son of the Late Lewis and Dorothy (Ridgway) Austin. He worked as a public accountant for 61 years and was still working on income tax two days prior to being hospitalized. He had many clients and customers and will certainly be missed by all. Joe was an avid bridge player and a life master of the American Contract Bridge League, ACBL; he loved Johnny Cash music, sang and played the guitar daily; spent most of his leisure time driving around the county and spending his warm days at the shore. He is survived by his wife Rochelle (Gaillard) Austin; son, Joseph (Brenda) Austin, Coldbrook; daughters, Shelley Gillis, Riverview, Dorothy (Roy) Chambers, Halifax, Jan (Bill) Hollis, Springhill, Lisa Austin (Amine), Ottawa, Rochelle Lee (Ken) Pettigrew, Leamington, Colleen Austin (Brad), Halifax and Charleen Carey, Hammonds Plains; grandchildren, Adam and Ali Hollis, Justin Gillis, Staci Durette, Andrew Austin and Justin Milne, Lucas Melanson and Michael Pettigrew; great grandchildren, Chantal and Cameron; brothers, Gerald "Bud" Austin Springhill, Donald Austin, Stellarton; sisters, Marjorie Austin, Halifax and Helen Austin, Halifax. Visitations were held 7 - 9 Wednesday, April 23, 2008 and 7 - 9 on Thursday, April 24, 2008 in A. H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill. Funeral Service was held 2:00 pm, Friday, April 25, 2008 from All Saints Anglican Church, Springhill, with The Reverend Brieanna Andrews officiating. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill, at a later date. Following the Funeral Service a reception was held in the Parish Hall.
