
Donald Clair Ripley

Nappan, N.S. – Donald Clair Ripley, age 90, of Nappan, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre after a lengthy illness. Born in Nappan on Oct. 28, 1917, he was a son of the late Clarence J. and Minnie E. (Roberts) Ripley. A veteran, he served in the RCAF in Canada and overseas. Returning home, he operated the family farm, lumbered and produced blueberries until 1971. He was then employed by Roger Bacon until he retired in 1981. Particularly fond of the outdoors, he had enjoyed hunting and fishing. An excellent marksman he had competed both provincially and nationally and was a talented gunsmith. He was an avid reader, especially of the old west and anything pertaining to flying and aviation history. He met his wife while stationed in Claresholm, Alta., and they returned for many visits over their 62-year marriage. Left to mourn is his wife, Kathleen Patricia Murray, Nappan, daughter Barbara of Grande Prairie, Alta., sons Peter (Faye) of Sackville, N.B., and Gregory (Shelley) of Grande Prairie. Also survived by four grandchildren, Tristan, Alyssa, Jason, Ian and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his only brother, Lorne, and his granddaughter, Sherri-Anne Thwaites. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Arrangements are in care of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777) where a memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place.
