Peacock, Joseph H.B. (Joe) 1926-2008 Port Elgin, N.B. - It is with much sadness that we, the family of Joseph H. B. (Joe) Peacock, announce his death on July 22, 2008. Joe passed away at the age of 81 at the Westford Nursing Home in Port Elgin, N.B., where he had lived for the past four years due to ill health. Joe was born in Murray Corner on September 13, 1926. He was the son of the late Stephen and Mabel (Trueman) Peacock. After completing Correspondence School, he attended Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro, where he graduated in 1946. He then returned to Murray Corner to run the family farm for over 55 years. He also drove a school bus for 11 years. Joe was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and special friend to many. He always found much delight in family gatherings. Joe was also very active in the community, especially at First United Church where he was the Clerk of Session and Treasurer for over 40 years. He also enjoyed bowling and square dancing. He was a member and past president of the Silver Pioneers Seniors Club and had served on the board of directors of the East Botsford Recreation Centre, the Murray Corner hall committee, and the community pasture. He was also a long-serving member of the local school board. He leaves to mourn his wife of 36 years, Mildred (Walsh, Sharpe); one daughter, Patricia (Robin) Briggs of Moncton; one step-daughter, Janet (Lloyd) MacKenzie of Amherst; and two step-sons David (Kathy) Sharpe of Saint John, and Jeffrey (Julie) Sharpe of Fredericton. Grampy will also be sadly missed by his two grandsons, Spencer and Ross Briggs; step-grandchildren Jennifer Kelly, Jerri MacKenzie, Lana MacKenzie, Amanda Cooney, Beth Sharpe, Andrew Sharpe and Claire Sharpe; four step-great grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Sarah and Rowan. He is also survived by a brother David (Joyce) Peacock, P.E.I.; sisters Grace Gnadinger of Joliet, USA and Eva (Gerald) Walton of Murray Corner; sisters-in-law Isobel (late Robert) Peacock of Halifax and Willa (late Henry) Peacock of Fredericton; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by brothers Robert and Henry. Family visitation was held at the Jones Funeral Home, Port Elgin (506-538-2241) on Wednesday evening, July 23. Public visitation was held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 24. The funeral service was at First United Church, Murray Corner at 2 p.m., Friday, July 25, 2008.
