William Turner
Fairfield, N.B. - After a courageous struggle with cancer, William Turner, age 53, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. Born in Amherst, he was a son of Arthur and Catherine (Hicks) Turner. In his early years, William worked at the Enterprise Foundry, moving from the floor to the office. Following training at technical school he became self-employed as a plumber for 20 years in the Sackville area. He was most recently employed as the Manager of Environmental Services at the Drew Nursing Home. William enjoyed designing and building; his hobby and passion were his home which he designed and built in Fairfield. He continued to work on his home right up until his death. He enjoyed his friends, playing snooker, golf, camping, traveling and was active as a wheelchair rugby referee in the past. He also enjoyed playing Santa for his many nieces and nephews in the Sackville area. In addition to his parents Arthur and Catherine of Sackville, he will be deeply missed by his significant other of 30 years Donna Fillmore; his sons, Jordan Turner, Sackville, Shannon (Danielle) Fillmore, Red Rapids, N.B.; two granddaughters, Olivia and Sophie Fillmore; two brothers, Ronald (Carla) Turner, Sackville, Rodney (Darlene) Turner, Sackville; sister Rosemary (Jane Tisdale) Turner, Sackville; father-in-law, Thomas Fillmore, Sackville; mother-in-law, Betty Brown, Truro, N.S.; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family members. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, N.B. (506-364-1300). Friends may visit with William’s family at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 2 p.m., Chaplain Phil Ferris officiating. Burial will take place in the Sackville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Creation of the Snoezelen Garden” at the Drew Nursing Home. www.jonesfuneralhome.ca
