The death of Arthur Melanson, age 97, of Amherst, formerly of Joggins, occurred peacefully at the Victoria Manor, Amherst on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008. Born at Ragged Reef, he was a son of the late Isreal and Alice (LeBlanc) Melanson. Arthur was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Joggins, and the Knights of Columbus. Working on the Marshlands with the Department of Agriculture, he grew up and lived his life in Joggins, until 2004. Arthur will be sadly missed by his 2 sons, Morris (Patti), Guelph, ON, Richard (Judy), Mississauga, ON; a daughter Margaret (Terry) Terrio, St. Catharines, ON; daughter-in-law Carolyn, Joggins; 10 grandchildren, and10 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Kathryn (LeBlanc), his son Robert, and 5 brothers and sisters. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the River Hebert and Joggins Community Funeral Home , River Hebert (251-2877), from where Arthur's family will receive friends during a time of visitation on Thursday, October 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated from St. Thomas Acquinas Roman Catholic Church on Friday, October 17, 2008 at 11 am, Father David Macdonald officiating.
