Floyd C. Brown, 76, of Jenks Avenue, Parrsboro passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at All Saints Hospital, Springhill after a four year, fearless battle with lung cancer, coupled with heart disease. Born in Parrsboro on December 29, 1931, he was the son of the late George and Gertrude (Fraser) Brown. Floyd received his formal education in Parrsboro and following school, spent from 1949 until 1954 with the Royal Canadian Navy. He was awarded the Korea and United Nations Medals in 1952. After the Korea War, he moved to Ontario, working for nine years in production, welding and prototype work. He spent the following nine years as a welding foreman, working in custom industrial furnace fabricating and installation in various parts of Canada, including a large installation of Hawker Siddely in Trenton, Nova Scotia for heating billets in the Marine Forge Division. During these years he with his wife Doris also managed a seventy-eight suite apartment complex in Scarborough, Ont. They returned to Parrsboro in 1971 where he taught welding at the Springhill Penitentiary until 1976 when he and his business partner, Kerwin Davison, co-founded Parrsboro Metal Fabricators Ltd. During the next seventeen years, he and Kerwin built the company into a true business success story until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of the Parrsboro & Chignecto Handgun Club, the Canadian Tribal Destroyer Association, Legion Branch No. 45, Parrsboro and Minas Lodge No. 67 A.F. & A.M. Floyd was well respected by anyone who knew him and was greatly admired for his "hard work" ethic, strength and determination, especially during his lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, the former Doris Dunphy; sons, Dana (Janet), Lakelands; Ben, Parrsboro; daughter, Deborah (Doug), Moncton; sisters, Gwen Gertridge, Gaspereau; Aleta Rea, Dartmouth; 2 grandchildren; several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Christopher; a sister, Delores 'Bill'. A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, November 21, 2008 at St. George's Anglican Cemetery, Parrsboro, Rev. Tory Byrne officiating. Reception to follow is St. George's Anglican Hall, Parrsboro. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro.
