Marjorie E. Andres Amherst - Marjorie Elizabeth Andres, age 92, of Gables Lodge, Amherst and formerly of Montreal and Halifax, passed away Monday, March 24, 2008 at the Lodge. Born in Amherst November 8, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Blair William and Gertrude Mildred (Smith) Andres. Marjorie graduated from Mount Allison University in 1935 with a degree in Home Economics. Following her internship at St. Mary's University in Montreal, she worked 8 years at Highland View Hospital in Amherst. She returned to Montreal to work at Douglas Hospital as Director of Dietary Services until her retirement in 1982. The Andres Centre, a community fellowship club, was named in her honor in 1972. She was a recipent of the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Metal. Marjorie was very active in the Zonta Club in Montreal. She loved to travel and saw much of the world during her many cruises. Marjorie is survived by one sister Barbara Ralston of Amherst, niece Jane Andres of Halifax, nephews Blair Andres of Truro and David Ralston of Amherst and Kenneth Ralston of Enfield, sister in law Regina Andres of Amherst and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Richard (Dick) William Andres and her brother in law Layton Ralston. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at 2 p.m. from Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) with Rev. Patti Blundell officiating. A reception will followed in the funeral home. Interment will take place at a later date in the Amherst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marjorie's memory may be made to Gables Lodge, Trinity St.-Stephen's United Church or the charity of your choice.
