R. John Gray

Robert John (Spotty) Gray, M.B.E., C.D., B.Sc., M.B.A. passed away at age 93 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Center on July 4, 2008 with his family by his side. Born in Springhill N.S., he was the eldest son of the late John James and Anna Gertrude (Bell) Gray. A veteran of WW II, he served with the RCAF from 1938-64. After receiving his Wings he saw action overseas as Commanding Officer Heavy Bomber Squadron 1944-45. Upon returning to Canada, he was stationed in Washington D.C. and various senior posts in Canada. He retired in 1964 with the rank of Air Commodore. He subsequently joined P. S. Ross & Partners in Ottawa and became a partner of the firm in 1967. With responsibility for operations in Eastern Canada, he moved to Halifax where he retired in 1977. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Margaret Pauline (Grey); his son Robert John (Elaine), Sackville; a brother Edward (Dorothy), Ottawa; granddaughters Catherine (Derrick Acton) and Kristi, Sackville; great granddaughters Lindsay and Laine Acton. At the family's request, there will be no visitation. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 will hold a service of remembrance at Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville N.B. on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 10:45 a.m. A memorial service for family and friends will follow at 11 a.m., Rev. Susan Estabrooks will officiate. Following the service, friends are invited to join the family at a reception to be held at the funeral home.
