Ralph Sherman Cole, age 90, of Amherst, passed away at the High-Crest Nursing Home, Springhill on Saturday, January 24, 2009. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Alexander and Cecile (Ward) Cole. A carpenter, Ralph worked at Dominion Manufacturers in the casket manufacturing industry, then with Ray Crawford and KP Allen. Formerly a member of the Amherst Fire Department, he enjoyed spending time at his cottage with his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his 2 daughters, Ruth (Ernie) Landry, Amherst and Sharon (Don) Herron, Kamloops, BC; 4 grandchildren, Ed, Terry and Krista Cormier and Gina Schoof; 5 great grandchildren, Mason, Brookelyn, Gabrielle, Jessica and Josh. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was predeceased by his wife the former Kathleen Sonier in 2004, and by brothers and sisters, Myrna, Kenneth and Ruth Cole and Grace Thurston. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). Visitation was held at the Furlong~Jones Chapel on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. The memorial service took place on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 11 a.m., Rev. Bob Mack officiating. Burial of the ashes will take place in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery in the spring.
