Raymond J. Yorke, 74, of Fox River, Cumberland County passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at the Moncton City Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Fox River, he was the son of the late Richard and Rena (Hughes) Yorke. During his lifetime, he was employed with C.E. Harrison & Son, Morris Bus Lines, spending his later years as area foreman with the Nova Scotia Dept. of Transportation. Raymond was a member of Grace United Church, serving on numerous boards, as well as being superintendent of the Sunday School. He was chief of the F.P.W. Fire Department. Raymond served as County Councilor for District 9 for three terms. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Lois Hiltz; a son, R. Clinton (Chantel), Diligent River; granddaughters, Hannah and Nicole Yorke, Diligent River. He was predeceased by sons, Michael and Derek; half brother, Leo Hughes. Funeral was held 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at the Port Greville United Church, Rev. Sandra Riddell officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.
