Ruth Katherine Mason, 95, passed away on July 20, 2008, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Ruth was born in Merigomish, Pictou Co., and was the only child of the late David and Estella Finlayson. She was educated at Merigomish Public School and New Glasgow High School. Ruth was an active member of the New Glasgow United Church where she taught Sunday school and Scouts. Upon moving to Amherst in 1955 Ruth became a dedicated member of Trinity-St. Stephens United Church and the Britannica Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, of which she was Past Matron. On a personal note, two objectives Ruth always wanted were to obtain her driver's license and to have a paying job. Both were accomplished in her early 60's. Ruth was renowned for her ability to recall information from the past and her quick wit. Her, husband, Harry, predeceased Ruth in 1990. She is survived by sons, Donald (Muriel), Halifax; Wayne (Brenda), Waverley; grandchildren, Pamela, Scott, and Rhonda; great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Michaela, Keigan, and Harrison. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 24, at 11 a.m. in Furlong Jones Funeral Home Chapel, 68 Church St., Amherst, followed by reception. Private burial will take place in Lorne Street Cemetery, New Glasgow. www.furlongjones.ca
